52 jobs in 52 weeks
So far so good on the hire me experiment. I've had solid leads in the US and UK...some good tips on sites that have the best posts and people that are worth connecting with to get some advice.
I came across a local guy that did an interesting experiment of his own. 52 jobs in 52 weeks. Wow...not sure I could do that. He was recently out of college and not sure what to do...and presto...a year later he's a writer, documentarian, speaker, philanthropist, and literally a jack of all trades. Check out his journey at www.oneweekjob.com.

I've mastered the tango...now how do I get someone to ask me to dance?
I recently applied for a job at Microsoft. Something a few years ago I never thought I would do. I used to work for them as part of their PR agency....and it was really great....but I also lived, ate and slept Microsoft for such a long time that I could have never imagined myself as an employee.
When I started my job search I made a list of companies that I felt were doing really good things...companies that had challenges, were creative, and had some real news in the pipeline. Microsoft is on that list. I know everyone has their opinion of them - they are a big company, and Apple and Google are still gaining mindshare with consumers. But I'm impressed with the direction...particularly with the consumer group. I think it could be a god mix. Now begs the question...how do you get a foot in the door?
The Microsoft Career site is an online submission process. You essentially cut and paste your CV, receive a confirmation email, then if key words match and you look like you could be a fit, you get a call back. So here is my question to those of you out there that have gone through this process - Any tips on how to actually get your CV looked at with this type of application process? With no way to follow-up it's frustrating to think it just gets lost in the abyss. Any tips much appreciated.
My experiment really just started a few hours ago. Today I'm going to start making outreach. I'm going to set a goal of 50 Twitter followers; 100 blog visitors; 100 Facebook fans and 5 job leads by March 31st - can I do it?

What lead to Day 1?
Since I finished my maternity leave I've been doing some freelance PR consulting and dabbling in few entrepreneurial side projects. It feels like it's time to find something more substantial. I feel the need for a new challenge. But I really don't want to settle for something that I don't think I'm going to love. That's fair, right?
Let the search begin... What I found is that there are a lot of opportunities out there...just not many of them happen to be where I live (Vancouver, Canada). So...I thought I would try this experiment. Since I use social media everyday anyway...why not see if I can use it to help make my job search easier...and perhaps more successful?
So - if you know of an opportunity that might be a fit (see skills) drop me a line. If you have any good search tips...I welcome your feedback. If you are also looking for your dream job and are interested in hearing more about my experience...maybe I'll be able to share something that will help you too.
Let the fun begin ;)
